Dan Dark “Dark Avenger”

Former Torch singer Dan Dark releases debut solo album, “Dark Avenger”.

Vocalist Dan Dark is a cult figure from his time as frontman of Swedish heavy metal band Torch in the 1980s. In 2003, Dan fronted a new line-up of Torch and stayed with the band until the live album “Live Fire” was released in 2022. Since then he has worked on his solo material. Now his debut solo album, “Dark Avenger”, is here.

The “Dark Avenger” is a celebration of hard rock. This is a straight-up hard rock album. “Trouble Is My Name” has a wonderful old-school NWOBHM feel. It is also one of the album’s best tracks. Other immediate favourites are “Bring Down the Wall” (an Accept-sounding rocker), “Seventeen and High”, “The Circle of Fire”, “She Wolf Boogie” and “Scream for Rock and Roll”. After all these years it is great to see a favourite voice from the 80s making terrific new music.

Dan is backed up by Swedish drummer Snowy Shaw (ex-King Diamond, Mercyful Fate, Dream Evil, Therion) and Australian Dave Talon (ex-Kings of the Sun, Rollerball) on guitar, bass and keyboards. The eight-track album was recorded in Switzerland and Sweden. The album has been produced by Dave Talon and mixed at Studio Fredman in Gothenburg, Sweden by Fredrik Nordström.

Welcome back, Mr Dark. We’ve missed you.

Dan Dark’s album “Dark Avenger” is out now via Metalworld.
