Album review: Phobocosm “Bringer of Drought”
Phobocosm is Canadian doom-paced dark death metal band from Montreal who will release their second album in May.
Phobocosm, formed in 2008, released its debut album “Deprived” on Dark Descent Records in 2014. Now they are about to release their second album. The band’s music is so slow that the 35-minute album consists of only four songs. But that is OK, as this is really good stuff.
Phobocosm’s music is quite different from your standard death metal. This is mostly very slow, dark and heavy music. There are a few faster parts on some of the songs but overall this is doom-like death metal with some black metal thrown into the mix. Both the debut album and this new album were mixed and mastered by Colin Marston (Winterfylleth, Gorguts, Vasaeleth, Altar of Plagues, Dysrhythmia, Krallice, Liturgy). The band has developed quite a bit since the debut album. They now seem to have found their own style on “Bringer of Drought” and it works a treat.
Phobocosm will be touring in the US in May together with Mitochondrion and Auroch, including a gig at the Maryland Deathfest with Testament, Venom, Mayhem, Nuclear Assault, Paradise Lost, The Haunted, Rotten Sound and many more.
