Bloodhunter in Tokyo

Spanish extreme metal band Bloodhunter finished their Asian tour with a splendid evening in Tokyo.

Bloodhunter at Hatsudai Doors, Tokyo, Japan on 9th October 2024

When the extreme metal band Bloodhunter from Spain finally made it to Tokyo (as part of a Spanish tour package featuring Rise to Fall and Vhäldemar) my expectations were high. The band was founded by guitarist Dani Arcos in 2008. Lead vocalist Diva Satanica joined the band in 2012 and took this to another level with her growling vocals. The self-titled debut album was released in 2014 followed by “The End of Faith” in 2017. Their most recent album, “Knowledge Was the Price”, came out in 2022.

Diva’s participation in the Spanish version of the TV show “The Voice” and her stint as the lead vocalist for thrash metal band Nervosa (for the excellent “Perpetual Chaos” album and subsequent tour) won Bloodhunter new fans.

In the current ferocious line-up of the band, Dani and Diva are joined by guitarist Guillermo Starless, drummer Adrian Perales and bassist Fabian Tejeda. On stage in Tokyo, the final of the band’s three shows in Japan as part of an Asian tour, they showed us that this band has matured and evolved into a great extreme metal band. Bloodhunter’s music is built around Dani’s guitar. He performs his riffs atop a great foundation created by the rock-steady rhythm section. When Diva’s vocals are added on top of that, we get terrific extreme metal. Diva not only has an excellent harsh voice. She also has the stage presence that made this an enjoyable show.

This evening in Tokyo the band was on fire as they delivered a short, hard-hitting and excellent seven-song set. I prefer a short show with no dips to a longer show which too often needs to be filled out with pointless talking and boring solos. A short live set has no room for slowing down. There is no need for fillers. What the band delivered was gut-punching extreme metal from the beginning to the end. We got “A Twist of Fate to Come”, “Never Let It Rest” and “The Eye of the Serpent” from the “Knowledge Was the Price” album. From “The End of Faith” album they performed “Let the Storm Come”, “Still Standing Up” and “All These Souls Shall Serve Forever”. They finished the high-energy set with “Bring Me Horror” from their debut album “Bloodhunter”. What a great way to say hello to the Japanese fans. Let’s hope the band will return to Japan for a full-length show once their new album is released.
