The Halo Effect “March of the Unheard”
Swedish melodic death metal band The Halo Effect curses the silence on its second album.
The Halo Effect, a Swedish melodic death metal band consisting of five former In Flames members, released its debut album “Days of the Lost” in 2022. Now the band is unleashing its second album, “March of the Unheard”.
The Halo Effect delivers the goods where In Flames seemingly has lost its way musically in recent years and become rather boring. The band plays mainstream melodic death metal without trying to be creative for the sake of it by pushing the boundaries too far. Sure, there are prog influences and the album ends with “Coda”, an instrumental piece with symphonic touches. But for the most part, the band sticks to good-old Gothenburg-style melodic death metal. This is a great band whose members have the songwriting and instrumental skills to deliver quality music.
Vocalist Mikael Stanne, who after his brief stint with In Flames was in HammerFall and then founded Dark Tranquillity, has a voice that is perfect for this kind of music. He is an excellent growler. He also has a beautiful clean singing voice. In The Halo Effect, he is joined by Niclas Englin and Jesper Strömblad on guitars, Peter Iwers on bass and Daniel Svensson on drums. The band is on form with this terrific new album.
Fantastic songs such as “Our Channel to the Darkness”, “Detonate” and “What We Become” are world-class and will win this band new fans. The whole album is solid and shows us that this is much more than just another project for these Gothenburg lads.
The Halo Effect’s “March of the Unheard” is out today via Nuclear Blast Records.
