Video | Ex-Angel Witch drummer on his return to hard rock with Dr Phibes
In this video interview, former Angel Witch drummer Dave Dufort shares his plans for the band Dr Phibes Electric Wizards.
After many years away from rock music, in recent years, British drummer Dave Dufort has come back to the glamorous world of rock’n’roll. In 2023, the first concert by Dave’s new band Dr Phibes Electric Wizards took place in Tokyo with a temporary line-up which included Venom legend Mantas on guitar. “Dr Phibes” is, of course, a classic song by Angel Witch.
In 2024, Dave made a guest appearance at two shows in Tokyo by his old NWOBHM band, Tytan, in which he reunited with his old Angel Witch bandmate Kevin Riddles.
Sitting on the Roppongi Rocks sofa, Dave talks to Stefan Nilsson about his thinking behind playing rock music again. He discusses the possibility of combining his rock past with his more recent past as a composer and performer of horror movie music.
During a career that started in the 1960s, Dave has played with artists such as Mike Oldfield, Ian Hunter, Mick Ronson, EF Band, Angel Witch, Tytan, Phantasm, Kevin Ayers and many more.
