Five Records That Changed My Life, Part 43: Pontus Egberg
Swedish musician Pontus Egberg is the bass player for heavy metal bands King Diamond and Wolf. During his career, he has also played with acts such as Treat, Zan Clan, Lion’s Share, Ronnie Atkins and The Poodles. Roppongi Rocks boss Stefan Nilsson talked with Pontus about what albums made him want to bang his head.
KISS “Love Gun” (1977)
“The first album I ever bought. My dad was not over-excited about my choice. He didn’t really approve of the image of those guys, but he still took me to the store to get it. Love him for it! I thought they were really cool of course.”
Sweet “Sweet Fanny Adams” (1974)
“This is also a very early musical memory. My friends and I listened a lot to Sweet already in kindergarten. Great stuff! It probably influenced my musical and sound preferences more than I may have realised. The album still sounds great today.”
AC/DC “If You Want Blood You’ve Got It” (1978)
“This album is probably the reason I got into the music business at all. My older brother brought a cassette home and I was totally blown away. The energy of this live performance really got to me and instantly I knew that was something I wanted to do. Later I saw the movie ‘Let There Be Rock’ and man, that rocked too. Those guys were a really amazing live band. I’ve seen them quite a few times.”
Led Zeppelin “Led Zeppelin IV” (1971)
“This was the first Led Zeppelin album I heard and it instantly made me a big fan. I bought all their albums and I spent a big part of my teenage years listening to Led Zeppelin over and over. Unfortunately, I’m a bit too young and I didn’t get into the band until after John Bonham died and the band split up so I never got a chance to see them live.”
Rush “Moving Pictures” (1981)
“Same thing with Rush as with Led Zeppelin, this was my first Rush experience and wow! Such an incredibly amazing band. Some of their albums, including this one, are still some of my favourite albums today. They changed their style a bit through the years but always kept an extremely high quality in everything they did all the way to their very last albums.”
