Don Airey of Deep Purple sat down with Roppongi Rocks backstage in Stockholm.
On 6th August 2024, Deep Purple keyboardist Don Airey sat down backstage at Gröna Lund in Stockholm, Sweden with Roppongi Rocks’ Stefan Nilsson. The conversation covered a lot of ground: the energy brought to Purple by new guitarist Simon McBride, the story behind Ian Gillan naming one of the new songs “Lazy Sod”, Don’s niece Olivia Airey who has joined Girlschool, his first Japan visit with Rainbow and much more.
In addition to Deep Purple, Don Airey has played with many of the hard rock greats, including Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Ozzy Osbourne, Whitesnake, Rainbow, Gary Moore, Saxon, Jethro Tull, Uriah Heep, Michael Schenker Group, UFO and many more. He has even won the Eurovision Song Contest with Katrina and the Waves!
