Yeti Valhalla in Tokyo
Yeti Valhalla has earned a cult following in Japan through relentless touring.
Yeti Valhalla at Meguro Live Station, Tokyo, Japan on 29th November 2024
Yeti Valhalla is an interesting band with a peculiar name. A yeti is a large hairy mythical creature from the Himalayas. In Norse mythology, Valhalla means Hall of the Slain, a majestic hall in Asgard presided over by Odin.
Mr Yeti himself, Adam Jang, is a Canadian musician who lives in Asia and has zoomed in on the Japanese market with relentless touring. He founded the band a decade ago and has worked hard on his vision for this band since then. He is a frequent performer in Japan and tends to bring in great session musicians to deliver his vision. Despite Adam being the only constant member, he always brings together a band that sounds like a well-oiled machine.
During this Japan tour, powerhouse drummer Yosuke Yokoyama sat behind the kit. He is one of my favourite Japanese drummers. Despite being a session drummer for a few shows with Yeti Valhalla, he got to play a drum solo and pulled it off like it’s nobody’s business. Calaveras lead guitarist Ken Kishi brought his guitar hero best to the Yeti show. Hirokaz Tanaka of Atomic Vibes filled in on bass.
Yeti Valhalla has great songs and in recent years they have built up a cult following in Japan. It is one of those hardworking acts that refuse not to succeed. They pack their instruments, get on the tour bus and keep performing. I love talented bands who work hard and soldier on no matter what. Yeti Valhalla is one of those acts. The band’s music is groovy and catchy hard rock. It has excellent songs such as “Mountain Man”, “Texas Tornado”, “Party Tonight in Valhalla”, “No Faith” and “Queen of the Evil”. At the Meguro show it was obvious that the band has loyal fans who know the songs. Adam has earned their loyalty and paid for it with sweat, plenty of road miles, hard work, talent and great songs. I have no doubt this is just the beginning for Yeti Valhalla.
