Noturnall and Majustice in Tokyo
Brazilians Noturnall finally made it to Japan for a four-date tour. Roppongi Rocks was there for the first night of the tour in Tokyo.
Noturnall and Majustice at Holiday Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan on 21st February 2025
This was a great Rubicon Music-curated evening focused on melodic power metal. It was also an evening where several terrific guitar players got to showcase their skills.
Japanese band Majustice features not one but two fierce guitarists – Jien Takahashi and Kelly Simonz. Both got to shine during this debut gig for Majustice. The band, also featuring bassist Kaz Nakamura and drummer Kota Mikawa, is fronted by Brazilian vocalist Iuri Sanson, formerly of Hibria. Majustice’s set was built around songs from Majustice’s album “Ancestral Recall” but also featured a couple of Hibria songs to the audience’s delight.
Brazilians Noturnall, the evening’s headliner, plays power metal with some progressive elements. They opened their show with “Try Harder” from their most recent album, “Cosmic Redemption”. The band’s line-up includes vocalist Thiago Bianchi, bassist Saulo Xakol, drummer Henrique Pucci and guitarist Gabriel Veloso.
The band was founded in Sao Paulo, Brazil in 2013. Its self-titled debut album was released in 2014. To date, the band has released four full-length studio albums. The best songs of the night were “Shallow Grave” and “Scream! For!! Me!!!”, both from 2023’s “Cosmic Redemption”. In addition to the band’s original songs, the setlist featured two covers, “Kurenai” by X Japan and “Carry On” by Angra.
Guest appearances during the Noturnall show included guitarist Yo Onityan and vocalists Jinn Jeon from the band Illusion Force and Pedro Torchetti of Storia. It was all good stuff which added something special to the live show. But, for me, what stood out during this evening was Noturnall’s new lead guitarist Gabriel Veloso (from the band Storia). This was his first-ever gig with Noturnall and what a debut it was! Despite the strong competition from the other guitarists performing this evening, Gabriel blew them all off stage with his unapologetic performance. Recruiting him to Noturnall was a smart move. It will help take this band up a few notches in the metal world.
Once again, Rubicon Music has pulled off a great tour.
